Florida's Treasure Map

What you'll find.

Tap any shell to learn its story — and what makes Marco Island's beaches unlike anywhere else on the Gulf Coast.

A typical Sand Dollar day

How it works.

Three hours of adventure. Two hours of beach time. One memory your kids will replay for years.

1 Families boarding the Sand Dollar shelling boat at San Marco Marina

Hop aboard

Meet Captain Evan at San Marco Marina in Goodland. Life jackets in your size.

2 A wild dolphin surfacing beside guests on the cruise out to the islands

Cruise the islands

20 minutes through mangrove maze, dolphins riding along, kids wide-eyed.

3 A mom and daughter hunting for seashells on a secluded Marco Island beach

Hunt for treasures

Two whole hours on a secluded beach. Buckets and mesh bags provided. Kid magic.

4 Guests holding up buckets full of seashells found on the tour

Take treasure home

Sort your finds on the boat ride back. Top picks come home in your own bucket.

Built for families

Why families love us.

Our entire boat — and our entire tour — is designed around making sure every kid has the best beach day of their life.

Infant-approved

USCG-compliant vessels with infant life jackets on board. Our youngest guest was 4 months old.

Dogs welcome

Bring your pup. We supply water bowls and toss the ball a few times. Most of our boats have leashed dogs on board.

Shell buckets provided

Mesh bags for hunting, big bins to sort on the boat, and your own bucket to take home the keepers.

Calm, protected waters

The Ten Thousand Islands shield you from open Gulf chop. Most days feel like a lake — perfect for queasy travelers.

USCG licensed captains

Every captain holds a Coast Guard Master 100-ton license. Fully insured, fully vetted, fully obsessed with shells.

Educational guides

Our captains identify every shell, dolphin, and bird you spot. Your kids will leave smarter than they arrived.

The Holy Grail

The Junonia hunt.

A Junonia (Scaphella junonia) is the rarest shell on Florida's west coast. Local shellers can hunt for years and never find one. We take families to islands where Junonias wash up every season — and we know where to look.

Can you spot the Junonia?

It's hiding among the shells on this beach. First-timers usually find it in under 30 seconds. Captain Evan spots it in two.

🐚 You found it!

Now imagine doing this on a real beach — with a captain pointing them out before you even see them.

Where we go

Inside the Ten Thousand Islands.

We depart Goodland and weave through Florida's last great wilderness — a maze of mangrove islands that protects Marco from open Gulf chop. Our shelling beaches are not the ones tourists can reach by car.

  • Goodland (departure)

San Marco Marina — old Florida fishing village, plenty of parking, easy boarding.

  • 1

    Keewaydin Island

8 miles of undeveloped barrier island. Sand dollars by the dozen on the right tide.

  • 2

    Kice Island

Lightning whelks, horse conchs, fighting conchs. Our top pick for shell variety.

  • 3

    Shell Island

It's literally called Shell Island. Need we say more? Best in calm winter mornings.

  • 4

    Deep Ten Thousand Islands

Our secret spots. Where we go to find Junonias when conditions line up.

"We don't run shelling tours. We run treasure hunts for kids who happen to have parents along for the ride."
Meet the captain

Captain Evan & the crew.

Captain Evan grew up walking these beaches with a bucket. He's been running shelling tours out of Goodland for over a decade — and he can spot a half-buried Junonia from twelve feet away. His crew of three USCG-licensed captains all trained under him. Every one of them is a parent.

Evan and crew don't just take you to a beach. They walk it with you. They name every shell you pick up. They show your kids the tricks — what to look under, what the tide tells you, why the rare ones hide in plain sight.

Got questions?

Frequently asked.

What ages is this tour good for?
All of them. Our youngest guest was 4 months old. Our oldest was 92. Kids ages 4-14 are our sweet spot — and we have infant life jackets aboard.
Can we really bring our dog?
Yes! Leashed, vaccinated dogs are welcome on every boat. We provide water bowls. Just let us know when you book so we have a spot ready.
How rough is the water?
The Ten Thousand Islands shield us from open Gulf chop, so most days the water is glass-smooth. We've had pregnant moms, infants, and grandparents with motion sickness all have a great time.
What should we bring?
Sunscreen (reef-safe please), water, a hat, and a towel. We supply the shell buckets, mesh bags, life jackets, and a cooler with ice. Pack a snack or sandwich if you'd like.
What if the weather is bad?
We watch radar all morning. If conditions aren't safe we'll reschedule you for the next available slot or refund 100%. Florida storms usually blow through fast — overcast days are often our best shelling days.
How big are the groups?
Public tours are capped at 12 guests for plenty of room and personal attention. Private charters are available up to 26 — perfect for family reunions or birthday parties.
Where do you depart from?
San Marco Marina, 604 E Palm Ave, Goodland FL — about 15 minutes from downtown Marco Island and 35 minutes from Naples. Free marina parking.
Can we keep the shells we find?
Empty shells, yes — bring 'em home. Florida law requires live shells (any shell still housing an animal) to be returned to the water, and your captain will help you spot the difference. Big horse conchs and large whelks are usually still alive — we'll teach the kids how to check.
— ready for the best beach day of your trip?
